Crochet Cactus Free Instructions
My crocheted cactus with guidelines on how to make it has been freely available to the world since September 2006.
Not long ago someone wrote to me asking if they could use my instructions on their website. I asked if it was a profit-making site and she said it was.
I declined her offer, and instead gave the instructions to my mum who tidied them up a bit and put them on her own site, where the traffic generates something like $3 for every 1000 clicks, which she can keep.
This week I noticed that the woman who wanted my instructions has gone ahead and ripped them off anyway, even though I declined her request. I'm sure it isn't against the law, but it's really bad manners and rather mean given that I explained to her about my mum's site.
Some people eh? What would the world come to if we all went around transcribing people's patterns all over the place. Is no one's hard work and intellectual property safe??
Well if nothing else, it galvanised me into action, and I have finally (after many months of promising) started to upload a comprehensive photographic guide on how to make the cactus.
I have taken care to present the instructions in an interesting and visually attractive way. I hope they are also clear and easy to follow.
One day it would be nice to have this little creation published in a book of some sort, so I hope the woman who ripped off my pattern might consider taking it off her site. However, I little expect her to do so as people can be mean and greedy.
